15 Questions to Ask in Your Next Member Satisfaction Survey

Member satisfaction surveys are valuable for a number of reasons. They allow you to collect important feedback from your members, make improvements to your association (thus boosting engagement and retention), and at the most basic level, show your members you genuinely care about their thoughts and happiness.

Can’t really go wrong conducting something like that, can you? The key, though, is making sure you ask the right questions – questions that are going to get you the feedback you need to advance your association.

Not sure what to ask your member satisfaction survey? Here are 15 questions we highly recommend:

  1.  How long have you been a member of our organization?
  2. Are you involved in any committees/sub-committees/task forces?
    1. If so, which one(s)?
  3. Have you ever volunteered with our organization?
    1. If not, what might encourage you to volunteer?
  4. Do you read our [weekly/monthly] newsletter?
  5. What type of content would you like to see in our [weekly/monthly] newsletter?
  6. Have you attended any of our events (either in person or online) in the past year?
    1. If so, which ones?
  7. Of our current events, which ones are your favorite?
  8. What types of events would you like to see us host in the future?
  9. What industry-related topics are of most interest to you right now?
  10. Do you currently follow our organization on social media?
    1. If yes, please specify the platform(s):
      1. Facebook
      2. Twitter
      3. LinkedIn
      4. Instagram
  11. What would you like to see us post about on social media? (Events, volunteer opportunities, member spotlights, industry-related news, etc.)
  12. How do you prefer to receive news/announcements from our organization? (Via email, social media, newsletters, etc.)?
  13. What do you currently like most about our organization?
  14. What do you currently like least about our organization?
  15. How likely are you to renew your membership in the upcoming year?

Again, the point here is to find out what’s working and what’s not to better engage your organization’s membership. Don’t be afraid to ask the tough questions. The feedback you receive will only make your organization better!

Now this survey covers a lot of areas – email marketing, social media, event planning, etc. For tips and best practices regarding ALL of those (and then some), check out our Ultimate Guide to Membership Management below!
