Agriculture accounts for 70% of all water use globally; up to 95% in developing countries. The water demand for agriculture is expected to increase almost 20% to meet the 70% increase in food production needed to feed 9.6 billion people by 2050. Effective and efficient water resources management at various landscape scales, therefore, is vitally important to enhance and sustain agricultural productivity and to protect natural resources.
The American Society of Agricultural and Biological Engineers (ASABE), in partnership with the Indian Society of Agricultural Engineers (ISAE), has planned this international conference on Global Water Security for Agriculture and Natural Resources, 3-6 October 2018, hotel Taj Krishna in Hyderabad, India. The purpose of this conference is to bring farmers, researchers, practitioners, entrepreneurs, and policy makers together on a common platform to discuss current and future water security problems, share research, and discuss creative solutions that can be applicable at various scales in different regions. The conference will specifically focus on water security for producing food, fiber, and energy crops as well as maintaining water quality and quantity needed for ecosystem health and services. The conference to be attended by delegates from more than 20 countries. Globally recognized leaders will participate in this conference to share their knowledge, ideas, and participate in the discussions to develop strategies for addressing this complex problem.
